Invisalign: Invisible Teeth Straightening

Invisalign is an effective, invisible method of straightening your teeth, without the use of conventional braces. Most people won’t even know that you are straightening your teeth! Treatment involves wearing a series of clear aligners every day for anywhere between 6 to 24 months – the duration of treatment will vary and depend on the complexity of each individual case. These clear aligners are removable, which means that you are able to eat without them and properly clean your teeth.

Where to start?

Before starting Invisalign treatment, it is imperative that you have your teeth and gums examined by one of our dentists at Concord Dental Practice. Your gums and teeth need to be healthy prior to starting treatment, as problems such as broken teeth or decay, along the way will delay the progress of teeth straightening. Gum disease will need to be treated, and any decayed or broken teeth, restored, prior to commencing Invisalign. A treatment plan, outlining any dental work required, will be provided to you during your initial examination at Concord Dental Practice.

The process

To start Invisalign, accurate impressions (moulds) of your upper and lower teeth will first be taken. These moulds are then sent away to a laboratory for assessment, and to produce a computer generated video of how straight your teeth will become. This assessment will give us an estimation of how long the teeth straightening process will take, as well as the end result. Once you are happy with this, we attach tooth coloured “buttons” onto your teeth – these are hardly noticeable, as they are made of composite resin, which is almost the same colour as your teeth. These “buttons” anchor teeth movement, and are required in order for teeth to move. You will be given a few sets of upper and lower aligners, which are worn every day for 2 weeks, before they are changed to the next set of aligners. A dental visit every 6 weeks, normally, is required, to ensure that the aligners are fitting correctly, and also to make small adjustments to your teeth (this is called “interproximal stripping”).

Does invisalign hurt?

Each time you change your invisalign aligners, you will feel pressure on your teeth, indicating that your teeth are moving. After a day or two, this normally settles down.

How much does Invisalign cost?

The cost of invisalign will depend on each individual case and complexity. Simple cases can start from $3500 and can cost up to $7500.
